Aurel VLAD (b. 1954, Galati), sculptor. In 1984 he graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts ”Nicolae Grigorescu” Bucharest, Department of Sculpture. In 2005 he got his PhD in Visual Arts. He won numerous awards: UAP Award for Sculpture (1990), Great Prize at Bucharest Municipal Salon (1998), ”Omnia” Award for Sculpture, Romanian Academy Award (2002), 3rd Prize at the International Symposium of Sculpture in Fuente Palmera, Córdoba (2003), ”Constantin Brâncuşi” Great Prize at the Biennale of Painting, Sculpture and Graphics (2009). In 1986 he received the ”Dimitrie Paciurea” scholarship and in 2000 he was decorated with the National Order for Merit in rank of Commander granted by the Romanian Presidency.
